How do you think the game will handle potentially controversial subjects?

GTA 5 came out in 2013, prior to the major changes in the gaming industry. Since then, a lot of things have been removed or generally frowned upon on gaming. Rockstar never was shy about being controversial and has been since the inception of GTA. I remember the games being blamed for real life violence in the early 2000's and I don't think hat stigma every went away. But since the industry has changed as a whole since then, how do you think they will handle controversial subjects now?

There were stories coming out about them being "more PC" when the game was originally announced as entering production. This could have been for the offices and workers, or it could be within the game... Maybe both. If they push too hard to be politically correct though in a game like this, it will absolutely ruin it. I think they need to stick with what made this game great - Mock everything and everyone and make sure NO ONE looks like a hero. It is a game about crime after all.

I think they will just do what they have done in the past. Why fix something if it isn't broken? The game needs to follow the same measures that have made it a success or they risk people losing interest or even worse, backlash.

I am not sure which they will face beyond what they faced in GTA 5 or even RDR2. Like you can kill people in there games. That is quite literally the most controversial thing you can be doing in a video game lol

Yeah this seems to be more about the work environment not the game. They were removing the "frat boy image" I think is the way they said it. So they started hiring more women and people with other backgrounds. I don't know if this will have negative impacts on the game or not. Depends on who they hired and who they have overseeing it.

Did GTA 5 do anything that would be frowned upon today in terms of the story? I can't think of anything. I mean if it did or does offend someone, it probably shouldn't be a game they are playing to begin with.

Correct, I'm pretty sure it was indeed about the work environment since it was more of a "frat boy" party environment. I truly don't think they should or will stray away from what made the franchise so iconic in the first place. The unfiltered delivery of everything and anything in the game is what makes it unique and always excites the players.

And as aurora said, if the game offends anyone, maybe they shouldn't be playing it in the first place.

I am honestly worried that they hired the wrong people. Like I don't care if they want to hire people to make the offices more diverse, that is whatever to me but if they hired activists, I feel like it is going to cause issues in the game itself.

Exactly so I am not worried as much. I think they know what makes their game successful and it would be stupid to move away from that. I understand wanting the offices to be more work focused and less about banter.

Absolutely. I mean if I ran a company and it was nothing but fart and sex jokes with people just being stupid, it would be annoying. Especially if there were females that worked there. They likely just wanted to make it more inviting and welcoming for other people. Like imagine being new to the company and the entire atmosphere is like a first year college party scene.

With humor? They make fun of everything and everyone. Kind of the whole shtick of GTA. I mean this has long been the case. I can't see them backing away from this. It is a mockery of real life as it should be.
