@Hassan mentioned rumors that the next GTA will be using the same or a simular engine to RDR2 in that we could very well see more wildlife in GTA 6 which I think would be fantastic.

See thread: https://www.gtaboom.com/community/threads/83/#post-413

That being said, it got me to thinking... Would pets be on the table then? Like allowing people to own cats or dogs in the game. I would imagine cats would be an apartment only animal which I would be fine with but dogs could be useful for keeping guard and notifications.

I feel like this would be something that could cause drama IF said animals were able to be shot. It is one thing to shoot wild animals but pets? That is probably a no-go zone for online play. Same with children. This is why Cyberpunk 2077 never allowed children to be shot or targeted in any manner.

I thought the same thing. If they can make it where they can't get shot at or ran over or anything like that, then it just ends up being a useless accessory. They wouldn't be able to attack other players or be used as a notification devised without someone being able to stop them.

I would be fine with just having options for your apartment. Like having something that just roams around that you can interact with. I don't know if this is something they would do though. It seems very minor.

As controversial as it sounds, it is Rockstar Games, after all. I remember seeing domestic cats in the various towns of RDR2. Different cats/dogs just chilling on the front porch of different houses that we could actually shoot. I am not sure if that would be the case in GTA VI, that is if they even decide to go down that route. But I won't be surprised if it is added.

They can potentially make it so the animals are "on the table" as long as they are in the wild/strays. However, as soon as you interact with them to make them a pet, they will become untouchable? Just a thought. What do you guys think?

That is a good way around it. Like imagine you are playing and a random stray dog comes up to you and started attacking you. You have the option to shoot it, run from it, or maybe try to befriend it though they can make it so you have to use food to gain friendship and then claim it as a pet. Cats though, not sure how that would work. The same way minus the attacking?

Yeah, that sounds like it could be viable. At this point, not having pets would be a missed opportunity, tbh. I also mentioned this in another post.

I would love to be able to have a doggo in GTA but I understand why they wouldn't allow for it online. I mean maybe have pets be part of the story at least?

They can have base strays you can "adopt" but also offer a breeding place where you can get specific breeds but have to pay for it. Even if they are mostly useless, I know a lot of people that would love to have a dog following their character around.

Oh absolutely! I know I would ahah!

then it just ends up being a useless accessory
We have a lot of useless things in GTA V right now, doesn't mean it isn't enjoyed or even fun for people. I think you underestimate how many people would love to have a dog just following them and riding in the car with them.

I mean I guess. With how micro transactions are these days, there is a lot of otherwise useless items in all sorts of games and people are paying real money for that. This would just be in-game money.

I would be cool if they were just house/apartment pets. That would work for me. It would liven up the place at least.

We had Chomp in GTA 5 so I am thinking they will end up having dogs at the very least in some form. Even as just an apartment pet would be cool with me.

I would love to be able to have my cat in GTA 6. Even if he just chills in my apartment or whatever. Being able to customize them or select a breed would be a huge bonus. Not sure they will do it or not though.

I would really like this a lot, especially if I can have my cat be in the game! I have an all black cat named Scarlet and any time there is an option to have a cat in a game, I always make her or select her as most games have black cats.

I must have overlooked this thread when it was originally posted.

My take on this is that they could easily add them, even if they are minor accessories for people to have in their apartments but will they? I highly doubt it. They focus more on guns, gear, cars, and clothing for the players to enjoy. Having pets would be an afterthought.

That may be the case but it could be a way for them to make more money in the game. If they can figure out a way to do that, they will certainly consider putting them in the game.

Having a doggo to ride shotgun would be sick. I don't know to what extent they would have in terms of purpose and I think people might be upset about their dogs being killed by other players but ffs this is GTA and people get shot and killed non-stop.
