I was looking at previous costs of games...
GTA 4 came out for XBOX 360/PS3 in 2008 and was $60 USD. GTA 5 came out on the same console and was $60 in 2013. Since then the price for AAA has become $70. I thought this had taken place in like 2015/2016 but it turns out the $70 price point happened in 2020 - when Xbox Series S/X and PS5 came out.
People are speculating if GTA 6 will cost more and I don't think it will, not yet anyways. I think the next price hike will happen with next gen. I don't know if it will end up being $80 or if they will do a massive jump to $90 but time will tell.
Now this is not to say Rockstar won't charge more. I can see them charging $70 for GTA 6 on current gen consoles but charging an additional cost for online access. I think this is how they skirt around things. I know they want to charge more for GTA 6 but they can't without a new console being released.
So when PS6 comes out (I have no idea what Xbox is planning for in terms of names lol), GTA 6 will cost the new price on the new console and likely include online for free.
The cost of online will be the difference between the inflated new standard for AAA titles I assume so if games will be $80, then GTA 6 online will cost $10. If they will be $90, then it will cost $20.
I could be entirely wrong about this but it makes sense to me.
