Can anyone explain the director mode in GTA 5

I am new to GTA 5. I got it for PC and I noticed this mode and I am not sure what it does or what it is for.

Can someone help?
 
It basically allows you to have more control and creative freedom over the game.

it is easier to follow a guide to know what you can and can't do. There is a lot to unpack with it!
 
It is basically a built in mod that allows you to do things you normally can't, like play as NPCs, animals, etc. as well as fast travel and tweak the settings. You can up a wanted level to whatever you want too. There is stuff you have to unlock to have access to though by playing the story.

This is probably the best description for it.

It is just a mod that Rockstar added into the game. You can't use it online or anything. It is offline only.
 
It is just a built-in mod like mentioned. Are you familiar with mods in GTA 5? While it doesn't add anything to the game like some mods do, it allows you to have more creative freedom with what is already available in the game.
 
I have yet to actually try this out for myself but I have watched a number of YouTubers do it. If you want to get an idea of what it is by watching someone else mess with it, there are plenty of videos on YouTube.
