Grand Theft Auto gets Surprise Reference in New Taylor Swift Song

Coming out of left field was an unexpected Grand Theft Auto reference by Taylor Swift in her latest album.

Contemporary pop music sensation Taylor Swift got trending (again) with her latest album release, which as a surprise to all her fans ended up being a double. Piling it on, another subset of fans was hit with a different surprise when the hyper-popular artist referenced Grand Theft Auto in one of her songs.

Incidentally, the context of the reference is quite befitting of GTA along with its tone of voice and sense of humor, too – recently the press just couldn’t stop talking about the serial-dater artist’s latest relationship, which happens to fuel a lot of the themes in the latest album, The Tortured Poets Department:

Truth, dare, spin bottles/ You know how to ball, I know Aristotle
Brand new, full throttle/ Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto
It’s true, swear, scouts honor/ You knew what you wanted, and, boy, you got her
Brand new, full throttle/You already know, babe

The “You” here is Kansas City Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce, and we’re sure all his “bros” who usually play GTA are having a bit of an existential experience since the song, “So High School”, dropped. To be fair, we are too – but for entirely different reasons; this raises so many questions.

A double album in more ways than one!

Most importantly, which GTA do they play? We’re also curious about whatever thought process led to rhyming ‘Aristotle’ with ‘Grand Theft Auto’, but both bonafide Swifties and casual listeners have weighed in on that online plenty.

Reactions in general have covered just about the entire spectrum, and the crossing of two hugely popular mainstream entertainment entities has also resulted in a bit of an engagement singularity among fans of one who are otherwise unfamiliar with the other. That said, being both a GTA fan and a Swiftie at the same time must really be hitting different right now for those to whom this applies.

Odd rhyme and context aside, it is definitely interesting to see the hit Rockstar Games franchise casually name-dropped by arguably the most influential contemporary musician in the pop sphere. Maybe next we’ll get, I don’t know, Ed Sheeran soulfully mention Red Dead Redemption or something?

Isn't she in her mid 30s at this point? Saying her boyfriend has "bros" seems a bit out of place since most guys have children by this age. It just seems silly to me! Either way, this really isn't news. I can't name one of her songs other than the one mentioned in the article lol

I saw people bringing this up. It is such a minor thing in the song. Other songs have referenced the game in the past. Not really a big deal imo. I guess it is because this is Taylor Swift, that is why it is shocking?

Of all the artists to mention GTA, I did not have Taylor on my bingo card... lmao

This is funny to me honestly. I never listened to her music. I hope this doesn't spring them to add her music to GTA 6!
